Incident Report Description

The SPDC army from Light Infantry Battalion No. 274, based in Buk Phir Village of Tedim Township, extorted money from trader connecting between India and Burma.

Details
On June 22, 2010, Burmese troop led by Captain Ti Hah had caught trader carrying 92 called tobacco loading with twenty horses on their way toward Mizoram, India. On the spot, they asked Kyat- 80000 from the owner. As the victim was threatened to seize all his belongs, failing to do so, he paid them the money.

In his statement, Captain Ti Hah explained that he had caught the victim trader and fined him money, for following through the illegitimate route. Although the Burmese soldiers keep on guarding the India- Burma commercial road, they usually extorted money at reasonable rate of Kyat- 500 per horse. But, Captain Ti Hah had extorted Kyat 4000 per a horse excessively.

It is learnt that the Burmese troop on petrol on the India- Burma border area of India are targeting traders connection between India and Burma, to impose unlawful tax, as part of their business. When victim traders asked the Burmese soldiers to provide receipt, to avoid repeated extortion of money by another group of soldier, they always refused by saying that they do not know about other soldiers.
